"The paperless office is now considered to be a philosophy (italics mine) to work with minimal paper and convert all forms of documentation to a digital form." - Wikipedia Entry CLICK HERE to Skip the Very Entertaining and Informative Text...Printer Repair Services At-a-Glance. Remember way back when...when everyone was all excited about the technological revolution and how it was going to change the way we do business in the future? Computers were getting faster, hard-drives were getting larger, laptops were just beginning to be [really] portable, and printers...well, printers were pretty much staying the same. It wasn't very long before someone coined the term, "paperless office" and touted it as THE WAY of the future...an office in which productivity and profit were at a maximum, and the need for space and expensive office machines was a thing of the past. It was imagined that the offices of the future would be as simple as a desk, a computer, and person...clean, efficient, easy... So, here we are... 30 years down the road and offices are as packed with complicated machinery as before... perhaps even more so with the advent of scanners, and routers, and all sorts of other neat-o stuff. And, we're still using printers...lots of printers. In fact, these days, offices are using printers and paper more than ever. Printers have become ubiquitous in the everyday office...like TV's in homes. The dream of an office devoid of paper has been replaced with the constant whirring and humming of printers, copiers, and fancy all-in-one machines churning out hundreds of thousands of pages every single day. This is the reality of today's modern office. Also part of today's modern office... the breakdown. Today's printers are being stressed more than ever...taxed to perform multiple tasks at a time; expected to scan, print, copy, and make your morning espresso...ok, I threw that last one in...but I wouldn't be surprised if one churns up in the future! The fact is, when today's printers breakdown, you can bet there is money to be lost in the 'down-time'. Business deals grind to a halt, sales personnel start twiddling their thumbs, and your I.T. Professionals start running for the doors. Printers are oftentimes overlooked and undervalued as vital components in the I.T. world. While servers and computers grab all the glory, printers are often relegated to the closet, or under the desk, or anywhere they'll fit where someone won't trip on the darn thing! There they faithfully grind out those reports, spreadsheets, and Word documents until they finally get fed up with all the neglect...and come to a grinding halt. At American Printer Service, Inc., we strive to get your printer working smoothly during these times so your business and its workers can get back to making money. We like to think of ourselves as, "Keeping Your Business In Business!" I.T. Professionals today are mostly trained in the areas of computer maintenance, and software issues. Sure, there is the ocassional I.T. person who knows enough about printers to clear the basic paper jam, or who can change your toner cartridges...but how many I.T. Professionals in your office can tell you the differences between a Charge Roller and a Transfer Roller, or explain how a Fuser works and what it does? Many business rely on their I.T. personnel as the 'know-it-alls' for all technology related problems...but, printers and computers are vastly different machines requiring vastly different skill-sets. Most computers lack moving parts. Sure, there's a fan or two...but other than that, nothing really moves. Printers, on the other hand, are FULL of moving parts. Paper doesn't just glide through your printer, randomly gathering ink or toner as it passes through... Every step in the printing process has been carefully timed to happen at a precise moment in order to give you the perfect print each and every time. This process involves gears, pads, rollers, and belts...timing belts, transfer belts, leather belts...you name it. When a paper jam occurs, it is usually because this process has been interrupted either due to a worn out or misaligned part. Just like your new Mercedes, printers require upkeep (we call it 'Preventative Maintenance') in order to keep them running at their peak performance. We are often asked, 'Well, why should I hire someone to come out and clear a paper jam when I can just pull out the paper myself?' In fact, we're asked that question so often, it even made it into our 'Frequently Asked Questions' page. Here's the short answer. You can change your oil yourself too...but do you? Changing oil is fairly easy... just drain the old oil, put a new filter on, fill 'er up... and VROOM VROOM. However, it's more than likely that you either take your car to a dealership, mechanic, or one of those little quick oil change places...either for convenience or simply because you're afraid that if you do it yourself, you may inadvertently break something. While most likely not costing anywhere near your new Lamborghini Gallardo, your printer is just as complex, with hundreds of small parts that can become damaged or misaligned relatively easily. We are frequently called out to businesses where a frustrated worker has taken it upon themselves to use a screwdriver or nail file to poke around the insides of their printer, often leaving scratches and gouges on the Fuser Hot Roller. We have seen gears ground to smooth, round nubs by repeated 'clearing' of paper jams that amounts to forcefully yanking the paper out of the printer. We've probably found everything and anything that can be dropped, spilled, or inserted into a printer...from dried up spilled coffee (with cream and sugar) to hairballs that would make Garfield gag...and that cat can eat! The point is, you can often times save money by having your printer repaired and maintained professionally rather than having someone poking around on the insides who doesn't really know what they're trying to accomplish. A $45.00 trip to have a paper jam cleared may easily wind up costing you $200-$300 in parts and labor if you damage a Gear Drive Assembly or the Fuser Assembly. Productivity can also suffer when printers breakdown. You may spend hours trying to fix a problem or find a setting that may take a trained Technician only a few minutes to resolve. Broken printers tend to be like personnel magnets...with everyone hovering around thinking that they can solve the problem with just a little...bit...more...poking...and...maybe...a...little...prodding... Meanwhile, your business has come to a halt. These are the times when you should be calling American Printer Service, Inc. 99% of the time, we can have a Technician at your door within 24 hours and have your printer running smoothly within the next day.
